Litigation PR discussed at Legal Business Commercial Litigation Summit 2018

This year Litigation PR was on the agenda for the Legal Business Commercial Litigation Summit, held on 15 May 2018.

Our CEO, Tim Maltin, participated in a panel discussion moderated by Richard Lissack QC of Fountain Court Chambers. The panel also included Matthew Hibbert, Head of Litigation at Sky; Tarun Tawakley, Head of Employment Law and Commercial Litigation at Deliveroo; Simon Bushell, Partner at Signature Litigation; and Jason Yardley, Partner at Jenner & Block.

Tim discussed the strategic importance of PR in Commercial Litigation. He emphasised the benefits of getting PR involved at the outset, in order to shape both the litigation itself and how the corporate is perceived before, during and after the hearings.

It was explained that PR can be a key element in deciding where and when to bring an action, and on what grounds. As well as the strategic value of PR in bringing and conducting complex litigation, Tim also explained how PR strategy can usefully inform how pleadings are constructed for open court hearings.

The discussion included the increasing use of corporate investigations and how these play in the global media landscape, as well as how they are used by both sides to set the mood music against which the litigation will be heard, both inside and outside the courtroom.

Speakers at the annual conference comprised a range of leading individuals within the British legal community, including the former President of the Supreme Court, Lord Neuberger and the High Court judge Mr Justice Knowles.
