Introduction to our Legal PR work

Maltin PR is an award-winning and internationally recognised London-based Legal and Litigation PR firm specialising in Legal PR, Litigation PR, Litigation Support, Crisis Communications, and Reputation Management.

Based at Aldwych House in the heart of legal London, the team comprises 35 law firm marketing and PR experts, including experienced copywriters.

Maltin PR was founded 15 years ago by Tim Maltin, who is recognised as a ‘Top Flight’ reputation manager in the Spear’s 500 Guide and recently listed as one of the top five Crisis Communications experts in London.

Comment opportunities in the national press

The most high-profile way to get your messages into the public domain at the least expense to yourself of time and money is to comment on relevant stories breaking in national and international newspapers and broadcast media.

We learn which topics you and your team are willing and able to comment on, and monitor the media for these opportunities. Speed is the key here. We deliver the right comments from our clients within minutes of stories breaking.

We also prepare comments in advance ahead of upcoming regulation changes and judgments and regularly arrange one on one meetings between each of our clients and key journalists.

We analyse your Firm by practice area, and secure coverage across client facing and referrer trade press, to showcase the strength in depth of your Firm. Each month, we share with you a schedule of media coverage. We aim to secure several pieces of press coverage for your Firm each month and more coverage per partner than any of your competitors.

Thought leadership articles in relevant trade publications

A effective way to keep your name in the media is through articles in the national and trade press.

By trade publications we mean both legal publications read by your referrers and lateral hires, as well as client-facing sector publications in the industries in which your clients operate.

Rather than asking you to speculatively draft 800 words for each article in each relevant publication, we simply brainstorm with you key article ideas and a selection of bullet points on each. We then liaise with the appropriate commissioning editors to secure article commissions for you in each publication.

Once your article has been commissioned, our expert legal copywriters can complete a first draft for you, or work with you to perfect your own first draft, as suits you for each topic. Often one article can be tweaked for multiple publications.

We will develop an article schedule with you, mapping out article topics for each fee earner.

Maintaining an up to date article schedule will divide this profile raising work equally across all fee earners, to ensure that agreed press targets are met. These articles are drafted to include key Google search terms, leading clients directly to your website when researching for a particular area of law or legal service.

Personal marketing plans & networking opportunities

We meet with each fee earner every six months, in order to discuss current personal and practice profile-raising activities, and to formulate individual PR plans, in line with the Firm’s overall PR strategy for the year ahead.

Personal Marketing Plan meetings inform us of what fee earners would like to comment on in the media, as well as topics they wish to write articles about, together with their appetite for attending networking events and speaking opportunities at relevant industry conferences and events.


We arrange introductory coffee and lunch meetings with relevant national press and key trade press journalists for your key fee earners, to build strong relationships between your Firm and the media.

These meetings assist fee earners in becoming journalists’ go to experts for articles and increase the amount of press coverage your firm achieves.

We do not focus on broad search terms, such as ‘best lawyers in London’, but rather niche ones that will resonate with your target clients, for example:

We assist our clients with identifying relevant conferences for client and referrer-facing networking and presentations.

We have a strong track record of improving our clients’ rankings in the leading legal directories.

We assist our clients in identifying and showcasing their best matters and referees for both Chambers and Partners and The Legal 500.

Our Directories team is led by Alastair Mitchell, who has 15 years of experience in the legal sector – half at the Directories, and half at law firms.

At Chambers & Partners he researched major sections across the UK, USA, Asia-Pacific, Global, and Europe guides, for four years. He then set up the directory research function for the IAM Patent 1000 and WTR 1000 Guides, running them for three years.

We also assist our clients in copywriting their entries.

Social media

Journalists and clients monitor social media for particular topics. We tweet topical news stories and thought leadership for you, in coordination with in-house teams as required.

Whilst social media will not actively win you clients, having a good social media presence can tip the balance for clients to choose your firm over a less visible competitor. 


We can compile your coverage and firm news into regular newsletters in either printed or digital format. We have an in-house design studio to design these and other presentation materials.

We can also distribute these on your behalf in a GDPR compliant manner, building and working with your contacts database, in coordination with your in-house team, as required.

Quarterly Reporting & Benchmarking

Each quarter we provide you with a full benchmarking report showing all coverage, competitor and sentiment analysis, including share of voice, as well as marketing achievements, metrics on your website and social media, together with a detailed breakdown of our time by initiative.

We measure your PR performance against your top five competitors and provide a breakdown of coverage per partner, search engine rankings for each of your key practice areas, as well as recommendations and target objectives for the next quarter.

Legal PR brochure

Our Legal PR retainers range from £5,000 to £20,000 per month depending on your requirements and the size of your firm. We review our hours and activities with you each quarter, in order to optimise your media performance and keep within budget.

Our monthly fees are capped to provide you with certainty for budgetary purposes and any additional work is agreed in advance.
