Gary is a retired Major General in the British Army and a highly regarded international security and crisis management expert.

During a distinguished 36-year career, he led UK and NATO operations in many of the world’s most complex regions – including as Chief of Staff of a NATO Joint Force Command, where he was responsible for the planning and execution of operations across Southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East.

Gary’s reputation is built on a rare combination of calm strategic thinking, operational clarity and people-first leadership – qualities that saw him command a British Army brigade, lead combat operations in Iraq and advise some of NATO’s most senior military figures.

After leaving the military, Gary brought his crisis leadership expertise to the private sector. He served as Head of Transformation at Logan Energy, and as Managing Director (UK) for Gardaworld, where he was responsible for more than £100m in global security contracts.

Gary is inspired by T.E. Lawrence’s idea that true leadership lies in the unpredictable, brilliant tenth – and works with leaders across defence, energy, finance and government to navigate risk, manage crises and build organisational resilience.

He is also an Associate of Othrys, a strategic security and risk consultancy, and an adviser to ABLO Consulting, as well as the French think tank OPEWI (Institute for War).

Gary is an Honorary Fellow of Birmingham University’s Leadership Institute.

Part time and as a Reserve Major General he is the mentor to 10 future British Army Brigade Commanders selected for the General Staff Development Pathway.

Gary holds two Master’s degrees and is a graduate of the UK’s Higher Command and Staff Course. He was appointed OBE for his leadership of a Battle Group in Iraq, and later awarded the CBE while serving as a Crisis Management Director at NATO’s Allied Command Operations.
